According to the Consumer Safety Product Commission, some 48,000 mattresses supplied by Costco are being recalled after hundreds of customers complained about mold developing on them.
The mattresses were created by FXI and sold between January and June of this year under the Novaform brand name, but only at Costco stores and on Costco.com. Prices for the mattresses ranged from $150 to $750, and they were offered at Costco locations in the San Francisco Bay area and the Northwest, as well as online.
People who are mold allergic, have weakened immune systems, or have damaged lungs or lungs could be at risk for health problems if the foam inside the mattress was exposed to water during manufacture. According to the CPSC, FXI received 541 reports of mold on mattresses from customers.
The Novaform ComfortGrande 14-inch and Novaform DreamAway 8-inch mattresses are the two products that have been recalled. While the DreamAway has a gray foundation with “Novaform” printed in white letters, the first mattress has a blue base with those same letters printed in blue.
In order to inform customers of the recall, Costco is also directly contacting those who bought the mattresses.
How to get a replacement or refund
According to the CPSC, customers should get in touch with FXI for a full refund or a free mattress replacement, which includes free delivery of the new mattress as well as pick-up and disposal of the recalled product.
Customers can speak with a customer care agent by calling FXI at (888) 886-2057 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday, to request the refund or replacement.
The so-called law tag from your mattress is also required, according to FXI. As they were produced in FXI’s San Bernardino, California, facilities between January 2 and April 30 for the ComfortGrande model and between January 30 and April 30 for the DreamAway model, the legal tag will help you establish if your mattress is affected by the recall.
Mattresses made in other facilities aren’t affected, the company said.
FXI, based in Radnor, Pa., designs and manufactures mattresses, pillows and other bedding products, with its brands also including Molecule and SleepInnovations. The company operates 34 manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and Mexico, according to its website.
